A Study Of College Baseball Players

In 1997, a study was undertaken to evaluate the effects, if any, of cervical chiropractic care in a study of the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg (USCS) men’s baseball team. The results were impressive. Athletes in the group that received chiropractic adjustments over a 14 week period saw the following results:

  • Improved muscle strength.
  • Improved capillary counts.
  • Improved long jump distances.
  • Improved vertical jump heights.
  • A decrease in resting heart rates both before and after physical activity.
  • A decrease in resting blood pressure both before and after physical activity.

Not only was physical sports performance quantifiably improved — but the physiological traits of the players receiving treatment, such as heart rate and blood pressure, were improved. In short, their health and performance, on and off the field, was improved through quality chiropractic care and regular, targeted chiropractic adjustments. You can read the full study here.

Translating The Benefits For Non-Athletes

The tangible benefits of chiropractic care were noticeably present for the players treated in this study. Chiropractic adjustments for people who we typically consider to already be in peak physical shape producing those kinds of results show the power of chiropractic care for those of us who are part-time competitors, weekend warriors, or those of us who are simply looking to live active, healthy lifestyles.

Improved Muscle Strength

Improved muscle strength and musculoskeletal alignment from regular chiropractic adjustments can lead to improved athletic performance and fewer injuries, allowing you to compete or play at a higher level for longer.

Improved Capillary Counts

Capillaries are responsible for feeding your organs and tissues oxygen, proteins, and amino acids- the building blocks of health, recovery, and performance. Chiropractic care can improve your bodies own network for healing itself from sports-related injuries.

Decreased Resting Heart Rate

Your resting heart rate is indicative of your heart’s strength and ability to pump blood throughout the body. Lower heart rates typically mean healthier hearts, lower chance of heart attack, and a longer life.

Decreased Resting Blood Pressure

Most of us know that high blood pressure is bad. A lower blood pressure when resting usually means a reduced risk of stroke and heart problems as well as improved kidney health. What most people don’t know is that high blood pressure places a tremendous strain on your eyes. Regular chiropractic adjustments can reduce blood pressure and thereby reduce the strain on your optic nerve, allowing you to maintain high levels of hand-eye coordination later into life.

Improved Cardiovascular Recovery Time

Improved recovery rates after physical activity means that you can get back out on the field, court, or track sooner.

Making chiropractic care a part of your sports-related care routine can keep you doing what you love longer.
